Ellis Island II

My ancestors sailed to Ellis Island

They left everything in Italy behind them

The only hope they had was to own freedom

And with that right they knew God would never leave them

Their children, my Grandparents understood their prayers

That they would find success in the land that they shared

Soon generations past and the country became America

And the goal was that the nationality American would stay forever

Now the nation struggles in making peace with other countries

Meanwhile back home the government is running out of money

As I look at the photos of my family who came

I wonder what defines America will ever be the same

There must be a way to make the United States a role model for all

If we don’t then everything those immigrants have worked for will fall

And Ellis Island will just be a memory that once stood tall
